Governor’s Budget Website Goes On-line
As part of the agreement to delay the budget message to March 10th, the Governor agreed that he would post on the web a projected budget by February 24th. Attached are the projections which show a potential fiscal 2011 deficit of $5.3 billion even after cutting $2 billion of spending from projected 2010 spending levels. This deficit will add to the projected multi-year cumulative deficit expected by the end of Fiscal 2010 of $6.1 billion. The TFI staff will be combing through the projections in the coming weeks. Elimination of Single Sales Factor
SB 3257, sponsored by Senator Martin Sandoval (D-Chicago), to eliminate the Single Sales Factor in Illinois has been assigned to the Senate Revenue Committee for a hearing on Thursday March 4th at 1pm. TFI opposes this anti-job creation measure and will be speaking with Senator Sandoval next week to express our concerns. Here is a link to the bill: click here
Slow Session about to Heat Up
As we head into Senate Committee Deadline week, the Senate Revenue Committee action has been extremely light to this point but over forty-plus bills have now been assigned to the committee and may or may not be heard by next week’s March 5th hearing deadline. Over in the House, the Revenue Committee action has also been extremely light with most of the seventy-plus bills originally assigned there being sent into various subcommittees. The House Committee hearing deadline is Friday March 12th. TFI is busy trying to determine which of these bills may emerge from subcommittee to receive actual consideration and which are most likely “dead” for this spring. We will keep you posted on all important action as things develop.
